The Oakland Raiders have decided to keep cornerback Chris Johnson, the soon to be free agent, offering him a 4 year extension.
Johnson started the final 8 games of the regular season after the Raiders cut CB DeAngelo Hall. He took advantage of the opportunity and proved with his play that he was worthy of the contract extension.
The deal hasn't been approved by the league office, a Raiders spokesman said Saturday. However, that is considered a formality, and the deal should be finalized by Tuesday.
After two years playing mostly special teams for the Raiders, Johnson really stepped up and earned praise from his new head coach.
"The confidence he has gained in himself is tremendous," Raiders coach Tom Cable said in early December, "but, more importantly, the confidence his teammates have gained in him. He has done a tremendous, tremendous job."
