Patriots to Re-Sign Yates

Out of work less than a week offensive lineman Billy Yates is likely to be resigned by the Patriots. A league source indicates that it will be a one-year deal.

Because the 2010 season is currently scheduled to have no salary cap, some of the rules regarding the way contracts are interpreted have changed and some not likely to be earned incentives would have become like earned incentives due to the uncapped year, raising his salary and salary cap charge by approximately $550,000. Rather than asking Yates to restructure his deal they have released him and will resign him under a more managable cap number.
