As we prepare for the NFL's scouting combine and free agency, teams are starting to mould their rosters with a flurry of cuts, re-signings and franchise taggings. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added one more to the list of re-signings by announcing that Ryan Simms will be back in 2009. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but as soon as I find out the details they will be posted here.
Sims, a former first round pick (6th overall) ofthe Kansas City Chiefs in 2002, joined the Bucs via a trade prior to the 2007 season. Making two starts in 24 games over the past two seasons, recording 50 tackles, including seven for loss, 2.5 sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.
Over his seven-year career, Sims has appeared in 83 career games with 38 starts. He has recorded 199 career tackles, 7.5 sacks, one interception, one fumble recovery, two forced fumbles and four passes defensed.
Bucs new DC Jim Bates has said the scheme he is bringing to Tampa will need bigger DT's to play a more head on one gap system. Ryan Sims, 28, may fit that bill at 6'4" 315lbs.
