The Ravens have promoted LB's coach Greg Mattison to defensive coordinator in an attempt to keep some continuity in a unit that has excelled under former D.C. Rex Ryan. Mattison will inherit a fierce unit that ranked 2nd in the NFL this past season. He plans on using the same type of attacking defense used by Ryan.
Mattison, 59, has only 1 year of NFL experience, but has been the defensive coordinator in several college programs including Michigan, Notre Dame and Florida.
"Greg is a guy that I have full trust and belief in, and not just because of his track record," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "He's been successful at every stop, but the job he did this year with our guys, I think he established himself as a premier coach in the NFL. If you talk to our players, they'll tell you the same thing."
