King says Favre is Done

Sports Illustrated's Peter King said today in an appearance on ESPN's Pardon The Interruption that he believes that Brett Favre is done with football. King claimed on PTI that doctors suggested Favre have a surgery to repair a torn right bicep tendon immediately if he wanted to play next season, a surgery which Favre declined.

Peter King also says he has a "gut feeling" that Favre would return to football if he could play for the Minnesota Vikings in 2009. Saying "If he's not going to be able to play where he really wants to play, I think he's not going to play".

Another reason for the retirement speculation is that it is believed that Jets owner Woody Johnson wants the 39 year old Favre to participate in the offseason training program. Something he claims he has never done.

King expects a decision from Favre sometime shortly after the Super Bowl.
