Details on the Leftwich Deal

It was reported yesterday that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, signed free agent QB Byron Leftwich to a two-year deal.

ESPN's John Clayton has confirmed the deal and the financial's. According to Clayton it is a two-year deal worth $7.5 Million. Leftwich will be scheduled to make $2 million this year. He will have a $3.5 million roster bonus in 2010 that has to be paid at the start of the free-agency period. If they pay it, the quarterback could make $5.5 million in 2010.

The total value of Leftwich's contract is identical to the contract signed earlier in the offseason by projected starter Luke McCown, but McCown will be paid more in the first season on the deal. McCown will earn $5 million this year, via a $2.5 million signing bonus and a $2.5 million base salary.
